The Wormhole
Info:
The Wormhole, is a temporary public art installation proposed by Samantha Rausch as an outdoor component of the group show, NO PLACE: No You or Me, curated by Caitlin Tucker in the Arlington Arts Center’s. NO PLACE: No You or Me will display the works of Samantha Rausch, Phaan Howng and Elliot Doughtie in the AAC’s Experimental Gallery. The opening reception is on January 24, 2015 from 6-9 pm and the show is up till April 5, 2015.
Thoughts:
The Wormhole examines spaces of in-between. It creates converging points questioning what is the interior & exterior of physiological, physical, architectural, terrestrial, private, and social space. The work plays with notions of travel, and experiencing tunnel vision as moments in time and space that seem to collapse. Blowing yellow pages of facade faces, the metamorphosis of the ephemeral thought to the caporal ecstasy. It reveals only the past path of material and remains as the bright wild beast of conciseness. The beast is always exploring and proclaiming itself as the uncontainable renegade to then start the journey once again.

Yarn Bomb: The Wormhole Project
Details:
The Wormhole’s body will a be bright splash of painted rainbow colors on a synthetic fabric sleeve, with elements of collaboratively knitted/ crochet portions covering the worm’s plastic tubing body. The Wormhole will look to have a richly colorful exterior that will be collaboratively knitted/ crocheted by interested participants who are excited in supporting my Yarn Bomb: The Wormhole Project. I ideally would like those interested in participating to be open to dedicating themselves for knitting/ crocheting a goal of 5ft in length with a 5 to 6 inch diameter yarn sleeve. This yarn sleeve tube gives freedom of choice of colors/ needle size/ fiber yarn up to the yarn bombers aesthetic preferences as their efforts are much appreciated in helping to build up the skin of The Wormhole. The yarn bomb component will be added to the body of the worm during install week before the opening of the show. The yarn sleeve “skin” will then be pulled over and secured in place over the synthetic painted sleeve I created that is attached to the plastic armature piping body.
I am highly interested in working people to promote an organized yarn bomb supporting my temporary public art project at the Arlington Arts Center. So please feel free in passing along the projects information found at sarausch.weebly.com under section In.The.Making and my contact information ([email protected] with the subject line: The Wormhole Yarn Bomb) to anyone you think might be interested in participating.
Again I am leaving what type of yarn materials/ color/ size needles used and whether the individual prefers to knit or crochet the sleeve for The Wormhole to be completely up to the interested Yarn Bomb: The Wormhole participants. Please the only criteria is that the diameter be 5-6inches of the worms yarn sleeve so that it can easily slide over The Wormhole (my altered and painted plastic tubing). The longer the yarn sleeve sections are the better because we have 300 feet of The Wormhole to cover. A shape example of what is being collaboratively created with the yarn is very similar to a giant leg warmer; for this yarn tube shape will fit then over the plastic armature piping (instead of a human leg). I am truly grateful for any participants excited in helping with my yarn bomb public art Wormhole project. Ideally, I would like each participant to pledge doing at least 3-5ft yarn sleeve “leg-warmer” for The Wormhole and to please email me letting me know an estimate of how much in length your yarn bomb component will reach. Participants please mail your yarn sleeve to arrive no later than January 13, 2015 sending it directly to:

(To have my temporary public art project: The Wormhole not only be shown at the Arlington Arts Center but also to engage with the vast community of Yarn Material Lovers would be an amazing creative endeavor I know we can accomplish. I am truly inspired by the collaborative nature of Yarn Bombs and would be honored to have my sculpture completely covered with as many people's colorful knitted/crochet yarn sleeves as a testament to the labor of love this unique material holds.)
